At a time of recession and austerity programs around the globe – and with new media demanding 24/7 news – the pressure on freelance journalists and local reporters has never been greater. More broadcasters and newspapers are turning to these sources of reportage but life and pay remains precarious for these journalists.
More enlightened media organisations now seek to provide training in staying safe for their regular contributors, but others may demand much and reward little.
KSMF’s awards program plays a major role in keeping a focus on the lives and work of these reporters. To continue to do so, we need to maintain the health of the Fund through donations and endowments. In short, we need you to help us, so we can help them. Any contribution, whatever the size, is much valued by us and we welcome any support you can give.
